It might, just possibly, be fun to post the name of bits of music and ask for prompts like: in what radio or tv programme was this music played...

blushing smiley 2 Hum ............ it was a very rousing crescendo thingy that used to preface some debating prog or other on BBCTV ... I can't for the life of me remember the name. Worst of all the music (which I believe to be Sibelius) wasn't named on the channel last night when I heard it! Thus my first example has been scuffled!doh smiley

Get a life, Tru, t'was never better than this ...

... and what's more, Keith Emerson went to Emerson, Lake and Palmer. I took Blod to see them a few years back.

Regrettably (unbelievably!) she wasn't impressed. Said it was too loud.

On the subject of modern musicians interpreting classical music, how strange life is sometimes.

Only four hours ago, a chap at work was telling me about the Children of Bodom (completely unknown to me previously) and encouraging me to seek them out on You Tube.

This is what he wanted me to experience.

Good, isn't it?

Well..........they're in tune, playing all the right notes (in the right order), at just about the right tempo, with a sound generated by fx that is similar to an orchestral version.

Where to start! Oh where!!! Ironeyes, Dear, sweet, c-l-e-v-e-r, Ironeyes ... Thank you v-e-r-y much . Not being able to remember was driving me spare! And I can return to the Sibelius forum now too - which I joined solely in search of the answer - and give them the result! It turns out they were worse than useless and hadn't a clue!eye popping smiley

And then K on to one of the high-lights of my youth ... Emerson Lake and Palmer at the London Coliseum playing Mussorgsky. It was just before the theatre closed (70'ies) and a superb experience. Never seen the like of it. Palmer (erm, was Palmer the organist, not sure) riding that organ as if into the jaws of hell: music, atmosphere, electric! But I didn't know the piece you linked. Thanks.

Ironeyes, I owe ya.

Interestingly, recently, some great violinist (blonde-alzheimer mo so name's escaped), told of his love of ELP's Pictures album qualifying it a "reference" for musicians!

Oopsie!

I confess I only listened to the first bit of the Youtube vid - which I thought was truly dreadful ...

After Tru's post I listened to the rest, and discovered that the bit I hated was only an intro, and had nothing to do with the rest ...

... which I loved!

Sounds pretty energetic, and so conveys the general thrust of that particular Vivaldi composition imo.

Ooops sorry Jan, yes this does kind of presuppose some exposure to British TV popular culture over the past 40 or 50 years ...

CORRECTING! (though the initiated amongst us doubtless already know!)

Emerson was the organist in ELP.

Just thought the point should feature here in electronic ink!

Might depend on how much exposure we should have. We might not have gotten some of your obscure shows in the US but I think we got some of your more popular shows here too. We Yanks would just have to try a little harder in placing music or scenes.
