How to play Beebotron links on an Android mobile ?
2333 Sun 31 July 2011
When I click on the program links my Android phone needs to load a "player" I have tried many of the ones on the Android market but all have failed. Suggestions welcome.

the beebtron links are usually for streams in mms: format - wma that was first used on Windows by Microsoft Media Player.

1) you need to have a media player on Android that can play wma format

2) configure you Android browser to start that player every time you click on that mms link.
(mime-types are a key word here)

I don't yet have an android so I can't help much more

PowerAmp & BoomBoxoid.could be android apps to try

I tried your suggestions but neither of the players recognise the trigger from the beebotron web page link. Even when I save it in their respective music directories it is invisible to both players. Players that can be seen by the system are the native player, Daroon, Mobo, Real and a few others, but when they load they cannot play the .wma stream. There is something between the web page link - that loads a script that - I need on top of the ability to play a .wma stream. I have looked at both the native and Opera Mobile browsers for the ability to set mime parameteres and there is none. Any more suggestions ?

I don't know much about the Opera Mobile browser, but I'll look into it. I know I have mine set up to open WMP when I click the Beebotron links, so I know you can set it up in the regular Opera browser.

The BBC Radioplayer might work for you. Have you tried that?

Any progress on this? I would love to be able to move all my media playing to my android but a lack of a player that alows me to play the beebotron links is a real issue. As mentioned elsewhere the bbc player only works on WiFi and also has to be the active app so means you can't do anything else!

Not really, Winter. You might try Opera Mobile. Opera has a pretty good community so someone there might be more knowledgeable about making them work on your phone.

I haven't forgotten about this, and I'm still keeping an eye out. Wish I had better news. sad smiley

I have no idea whether or not this is helpful or not, but as it applies to this thread, I figured I take the chance and post it....just in case.
