Song Title Association
0019 Wed 29 February 2012
As I mentioned elsewhere, there's a long-running song title association game on h2g2. It's slightly problematic because the OP wasn't very clearly defined - "All you have to do is think of a song title that matches or follows on from the previous one posted." This could mean using a word, or variant thereof, from the preceding title, or it could be something more imaginative. Here's a recent sequence from h2g2:-

Take Me Home Country Roads - John Denver
Homeward Bound ~ Simon & Garfunkel
Sweet Home Chicago - Barack Obama
Cook With Honey ~ Judy Collins
Brown Sugar - The Rolling Stones
Sweets for my Sweet - The Drifters

Some links are mysteriously disallowed on the h2g2 thread, most recently White Rabbit -> Late For The Sky. That would be allowed here, since the concept most closely associated with The White Rabbit is lateness. In fact, I propose that any demonstrable association be allowed - and should be demonstrated on request. However, the aim of the game is not to mystify other posters with obscure and convoluted links, and brickbats will be awarded to those who continually do so.

The format is the same as in the Daisy Chain, but the artist name is only for information - the link should be on the song title.

I'll start, optimistically, with

Expecting to Fly ~ Buffalo Springfield

Might I suggest that the title, that is being replied to, is displayed, especially as the link is by title theme, not artist. This might help thickos like me under stand the link!

Puff the Magic Dragon (string is the link - is that allowed? It's in the lyric of both but not the title. I'm not sure I've got the hang of this sad smiley )

Both Sides Now - Joni Mitchell

The connection being a Burkiss Way sketch in which Lord Russian Emigree is dictating his autobiography and remembers a party in which Joni Mitchell releases both sides now, and later when his hands were bandaged Julie Andrews brough out my favourite things.

Nothing wrong with linking via the lyrics per se, although your use of 'string' seems very random, rum. PAW's link strikes me as being excessively obscure, but linked to the wrong post anyway, which leaves Jan out on a limb. I haven't a clue what Mat's post is about. And the title of the Julie Andrews song is "My Favourite Things". Otherwise, it's all going swimmingly.

Ridin' Dirty - Chamillionaire

(Suppose I should explain the link for those who don't get it. The song is about racial profiling by police where they stop African-American's in an attempt to catch them with drugs or "Ridin' Dirty". Hence, Don't Stop Me Now.)

I though the link was "dont stop me now because I am riding....................!!!! Oh welldoh smiley

Along comes Mary - She'll be coming round the mountain (when she comes) - Childrens Song

Double link - the word "come" and the idea - how will she come , she will be coming round etc.

Might it help if you can run the two titles together and they make sense - if not necessarily a grammatial sentence!
