I posted about this on another thread, but I thought it might be a good idea to post it here as well.

For those who aren't aware, there are some book sharing websites, where you can take the books your finished with and pass them onto to others, and get books others are through with, all for free (or postage if you want).

One of these sites is called Book Crossing.

You obtain an ID number for the book from the website to register it. Place the number inside and then .give it away to a friend, or release it into the wild by leaving it on a park bench, or at a coffee shop, somewhere someone is likely to pick it up, or you can mail it to someone who's interested in it, whatever.

When the next person receives it, they register that they have it, so you can follow it all over the world. And it's all free. Great idea, imo.

Anyhoo, thought it might be of interest. smiling smiley

Yes, it does sound lovely! We had a similar thing where I used to work. We had a big set of bookshelves in the break room, and people would bring in the books they were through with and but them on the shelves for others to, either just read on break and put back, or give them a good home.

I found a whole series of Tom Clancy books for my son.

I really like the idea of being able to follow the book on it's adventures around the world. And all for free! smiling smiley

Thanks Jan. A friend told me of a similar service for dvds and video games. Will have to look into the book end of these things, I have a few I can let go of now.

Not quite the same situation, but close.....our village church (800+ years old) is going to be terminating operations(!?) during the next few months, and among the various alternative uses that have been suggested is a paperback exchange. Bring in a book and leave with another. I thought it would be interesting if everybody who had read a book wrote their name in the flyleaf and gave it an enjoyment rating - say one to five.

I know of a village in Wales who use a redundant telephone kiosk in this way.

I'm NOT paranoid......thats just what THEY want you to think!!!
