One of my nieces just released her first book. She's doing this Indie so she needed all the help she could get in promotion. I told her I'd write her a review this weekend for a local website that's hooked-up with the local paper.

So if you'd like to read about my weird family here's the review smiling smiley :

That sounds interesting (and fun) Jan.

Do you know if she has approached Amazon to get it self-published for Kindle?

Could be worth her taking a look at ISELFPUB.COM if she hasn't already done so.

I'm NOT paranoid......thats just what THEY want you to think!!!

Actually, she has, Teepee, thanks so much for asking. The link to her book at Amazon is at the bottom of the article. It's pretty cheap, 99¢ for Kindle and something like $2.99 for paperback. Aside from the ones in the states, she's already had a couple of sales in the UK smiling smiley

I didn't know they had a free PC app for Kindle now. I found some interesting free e-books on Amazon too. I think it's great people can get Indie books published like this. There's a lot of wasted talent out there and this makes things a little more accessible.

She's done a remarkable job, really. She's managed to write the thing (which is an accomplishment in and of itself) and figured out how get it published on Amazon. The cover is a picture of herself that she tweaked, and she's managed to get an interview tonight with some local radio deejay's that have a live online podcast. They're not my cup of tea, but I'll be listening. This will be her first interview and she's extremely nervous. Anyhoo, not too shabby for just a couple of weeks. smiling smiley

As for the book being fun, it is! It's a good mix of crime, mystery, vampires and comedy. Not too bad for her first one. You can really see her potential. I really have fallen in love with her main character. She's a wise-a*s but she's got heart (no pun intended tongue sticking out smiley )

Her book is free for Kindle on Amazon today for twenty-four hours and they have the free Kindle for PC app.

I wish I'd know they were going to do that Teepee. blushing smiley 2

Free books on Kindle? Is this a special thing for Leap Year Day? Are there many of them? If so, how do you find out what's available?

It's of no import to me, as I don't read, but I imagine my impecunious daughter, who was given a Kindle for Christmas, would be interested.

They run specials all the time, Tickle. I'm not sure who else's books are free today besides my niece's. You can probably do a search for free e-books.

Thanks, Jan. I did a search, but only came up with individual books. I thought there might be a list, as it's a special day. Anyway, she's probably too busy in the fields or working on her latest song. And I suspect she probably only reads eco books.

Ah. Well, I do run into them periodically, so I'll keep my eye out for eco ones.

So she's a musician?

Plays violin - or used to - to about grade 8 standard. More interested in strumming her guitar now and has taken to writing the odd song - some would say very odd. Quite strong on lyrics - she started with a set you free song for her ex-boyfriend, described as "my lovely, crazy, never lazy, workaholic Pole" and has carried on from there.

Yes, I know - I've tried.

Is the song-writing brother father to the book-writing niece?

Never mind Jan - story of my lifedoh smiley

As it cost me less than two quid I aint gonna scream!

For anybody else who is interested, there are always dozens of free books available for Kindle. If you go onto the Amazon Kindle forums there are user posts relating to that days free books, usually under the thread "Freebies dd/mm/yy".

Did try to post the forum link here, but for some reason its cutting it in halfconfused smiley

No, actually, that niece is belongs to my younger brother (he's musical too, but not a songwriter). The songwriter is my older brother. One of his daughters is a singer. Most of my family is musical, except me. I decided many years ago that I was the audience. I'm very good at that. smiling smiley

Check the link now, Teepee, I think I fixed it.

Sorry, but every time that I see this header, I think of a woman in a bath calling the Butler and then letting the water out.

Jan - I finished reading "The Scene" this week. Really enjoyed it - give her my congratulations. I will post a review on Amazon shortly. There is a slightly critical assessment of one aspect, but this is very much a personal thing.......tell her not to take it to heart.

Tickle - for free books for Kindle take a look at WWW.EREADERIQ.CO.UK where you can pull up lists of free books based on genre etc.

ps Tried to post the above as a link, but it kept screwing up.

Oh thank you, Teepee! She'll appreciate it I'm sure! You can tell she's a new writer. And she writes like she talks (swears like a sailor....takes after her Auntie Jan tongue sticking out smiley), but my 81 year-old mother-in-law is enjoying it other than that, and vampire novels are not her thing at all.

I'm really interested to see how she develops as a writer through this series. I think she'll be quite good when all is said and done.

Thanks again for reading it! smiling smiley
