iPlayer & Win98SE

iPlayer now seems to require the latest version of Flash. This has blocked my out of TV & radio too. Both were working fine on Win98SE.

Why does the BBC need the latest version of Flash? (RadioPlayer still works on Win98).

Any chance of the wonderful Beebotron covering TV?

This is the problem that brought me to the Beebotron again. A post in one of the forums here reminded me of Winamp (of which I had formed an unfavourable impression many years back, for some forgotten reason, possibly because it was too CPU-intensive). I installed version 3.53 (from either http://www.oldversion.com/ or http://www.oldapps.com/, and haven't looked back since,

It is indeed maddening that the BBC force you to use Flash, for an audio-only transmission! And they did it even for programmes which (I had already found, before the change) worked perfectly with an older version of Flash player - so they weren't even telling the truth about the so-called upgrade being "necessary".

P.S. What I wrote about Winamp may be irrelevant. RealPlayer (I have version 10.5) does indeed work fine on Win98SE, and I still prefer it to Winamp. Unfortunately, my particular installation of Win98SE has problems with WMA codecs, which seemed to be insoluble until I installed Winamp, which comes with its own codecs. (RealPlayer seems to use the M$ ones, which are buggered on my system.)

Hey, Soundgeek, welcome to the boards! smiling smiley

As for the Beebotron covering TV, I sort of doubt that it's possible. What the Beebotron does is round-up all the WMA links produced by the BBC for their radio programs, and put them in one place so they are easily accessible.

I don't know if the BBC are producing links for a older version of Flash, alongside the new version, or not. If they did, then it could probably be done. I haven't heard of them doing that, but anything is possible.

Wish I had better news. The only hope is if Kronalias comes along and says I'm off my nut and, "Of course it can be done!". Since I am off my nut....ya' never know! winking smiley

Hope you have a Merry Christmas anyway. smiling smiley
