History of the Morbius character
Dr. Michael Morbius, Ph. D., M.D., is a brilliant biochemist and suffers from a rare blood disorder. The history of Morbius is explained directly at the beginning of his first trailer. Through his own treatments involving vampire bat DNA and electroshock therapy, he tried to cure his illness.
Unfortunately, like the origin of other Marvel characters, the trial did not make it better. The treatment that Morbius did instead made him acquire supernatural abilities like a vampire, along with a hunger for blood that is never satisfied.
But Morbius is not a true vampire. His condition is called “pseudo-vampirism”, giving him strength, speed and healing like a vampire. He still has to drink blood and avoid sunlight.
That is what makes it the same as the other Marvel pseudo-vampire characters, Blade, and is different from the undead or Dracula. Because he did not become a supernatural vampire, Morbius was still alive. Because of that, he got the nickname “The Living Vampire”, or vampires who are still alive.
Morbius was created by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane. He first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man, published in 1971. Morbius was the first Spider-Man villain who was not created by Spider-Man’s owner, Stan Lee. Kane created his appearance based on actor Jack Palance.
Written as a horror-themed enemy, Morbius once got his own series. His presence was shown at the end of Alternative Blade (1998) and the Spider-Man animated series in the 1990s. Sometimes he also joins Ghost Rider, Blade, and even Doctor Strange against vampires or other dark forces at Marvel Universe.
In addition to the appearance of changing his face, Morbius’s strength can be seen in the trailer. As hearing increases, it is similar to echolocation used by bats. In addition, like vampires, Morbius has the ability to hypnotize, making people obey his wishes tube8.
Morbius Relationship with Spider-Man
Nearly 50 years of its history, Mobius has fought and even fought alongside Spider-Man in various Marvel comic story series. Like Venom, Morbius usually became a vicious villain or sucked the villain’s blood to satisfy his desire for blood.
Instead of being evil, Morbius often sought medicine to treat his vampire’s condition in various ways. But because it often attacks and turns humans into vampires in the past, Morbius’s movements are always noticed. He has been defeated many times by Spider-Man, Blade, X-Men, Fantastic Four, and other Marvel comics.
After the presence of Venom (2018), Sony has indeed announced that it will produce more films from the iconic characters in the Spider-Man story and create its own cinematic universe. In addition to the characters, Morbius, Black Cat, Silver Sable, and Kraven the Hunter are reportedly being developed.
The new film Morbius, which will air July 31, will be directed by Daniel Espinosa, who is also the brain behind Safe House and Life . Besides holding Jaret Leto as Morbius, the film will also star Adria Arjona and Tyrese Gibson.
